I thought I had a bad trip home yesterday, then saw a friend's note
I live in CT. My family got together with 3 of my best friends from VT, and their family, from Thursday to yesterday in Chincoteague.
Thursday, we left CT at 5 AM so we'd get to the bridge in time to avoid most traffic. Worked like a charm.
Yesterday, We would have had to leave at 2 AM or so to pull the same trick, and that really wasn't an option.
So first, in Delaware, the kids were hungry so we pulled off of Rte 1 in Smyrna, DE - not long after a charity motorcycle ride had started, with over 1,000 bikes, with police escorts. Starting point was....yup....1 mile to the left of where we got off of Delaware Rte 1. So 20 minutes spent there watching all those bikes go by.
Then we get to the NJ Turnpike. Refreshingly easy, actually. But the GW Bridge and 95 across NYC? Cost us almost 2 hours for 20 miles., and we missed picking up the dog from the Kennel by 10 minutes. Got home a very tired and frustrated group.
But then saw a note from one of the friends I was visiting that their car had broken down on the DC beltway about 20 minutes from their Fairfax, VA home. They had to wait an hour on the side of the road for a tow truck.
Yeah, their trip still took less time than ours, but at least my car was still working, so McHokie gets the award for the worst drive home.
All in all, we had a great time and would do it again....but I really wish I could afford my own private helicopter.
